How To Give Formals A Sporty Spin-Aien Jamir

Everybody gets inspired differently. The hardest part is finding out how you’re inspired and taking it from there. Are you stimulated visually? Auditorily? For some people it’s reading a book, watching a movie or going to a museum. For others it’s found walking around town or listening to new/old music. My current favorite handle for inspiration is Bleumode. When my creative juice runs out I always end up browsing through his Instagram feeds. It’s a great place to hang around to feed my brain some creative insights.

I’ve never felt comfortable in formal wear – that’s probably why I chose a career in the fashion industry where I’ve never really had to do corporate dressing. That’s not to say I don’t have to look smart, professional and pulled-together. I do not mind throwing few formal pieces here and there whilst styling a formal look, however I love to add my personal touch.

I’m wearing a flared asymmetrical hem skirt with a black stripes shirt, and layering it with a long cotton twill olive over coat. And finally, finishing the look with a pair of white sneakers. One can never really go wrong with a pair of white sneakers. The sports luxe blend of relaxed and formal is the new normal and it takes the look to a new level of interest. And I definitely like the idea of sportswear sneaking into business class.

If you’re still new to the layering game, test your creativity with all one color. It’ll seem super thought out and crazy chic.
